The Hotwire is the ideal carabiner for rock, snow and ice.  The wiregate is extremely light and resists freezing in full on conditions.  Most importantly the wiregate is impervious to gate vibration when suddenly loaded or from rope drag, something common to traditionally-gated biners.  It's large enough to hold gear while light enough for alpine debauchery.
